Razor Mantis Speed Pad

This mouse pad is specially designed for gaming, but it is not just for serious gamers it is for any gamer that wants to do a full 180 degree sweep in a tank in Battlefield 2. This pad is engineered for top of the line gaming performance. This mouse pad is very large the tube it comes in (which is handy for toting it to LAN parties) states the pad is 444mm x 355 mm x 4.3 mm ok if those numbers mean nothing to you are from America Like me. So for us American the pad is 17.25 in. x 14 in. x .125 in. so it’s big.

I got sick of the mouse sliding off my tiny normal mouse pad and decided to do something about it. So now I stay on the mouse pad and get very little resistance for my MX518. As an added bonus it looks really cool.

I recommend this Razer Mantis Speed pad to anyone who plays more than one hour per week on their PC. I have found the large smooth mousing surface to be very helpful in all first person shooters as well Guild Wars and World of Warcraft; and it is great for navigating the huge maps in Supreme Commander. I picked mine up on xoxide.com for just under $30 bones plus shipping. Keep an eye out for Kungfuhero, cause I will frag you.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The forth installment in the Call of Duty series brings the combat from WWII into the modern age. The single player game features the British SAS and the US Marine Force Recon Platoon in several interactive missions with the aim of finding and destroying a known terrorist. Funny thing is this terrorist does not hail from Iran, Iraq or the Nation of Islam; he is Russian, and bent on global destruction.

The single player campaign has some high points but is mostly a shoot the mindless terrorist game. The AI for this game is almost worthless, the enemy charges fortified positions like revolutionary war British red coats charged cannons in 1792. The difficulty levels simply consist of enemies being more numerous and harder to kill. The end of the came is very dramatic and unfulfilling to say the least.

The only saving grace this game has is the multiplayer mode. I had the pleasure of spending several hours at a LAN playing this game and it was a good time. I have to point out that we played a mod version of the multiplayer game so I my opinion of COD4 may be flawed in that way. The city maps are challenging and gripping with players able to take up secure positions in empty buildings to pick off the opposition. Each building on every map can be entered making the world a very dangerous place. This is a great improvement over the urban combat of BF2 in which players could not enter any building. BF2 was good for its time but COD4 is much better at portraying modern warfare.

Ultimately the top-notch multiplayer does little to make up for the lackluster single player game. Call of Duty set the standard for single player war games and fails to live up to its on standard with Call of Duty 4. I give this game a 7 out of 10, I say wait until the price drops to pick this one up.

Enemy Territory Quake Wars

This is a brilliant game, filled with all sorts of action, fun and adventure. This chapter in the Quake series pits the Global Defense Force (GDF) against the mighty alien race the Strogg for control of several earth territories. There are several different classes that a player can choose from that are basically the same for each race with different names for the Strogg and the humans. For the humans there is Soldier, Medic, Engineer, Field ops, and Covert ops. For the Strogg there is Aggressor, Technician, Constructor, Oppressor, and Infiltrator.

Each class has specific skills, tools and abilities that they bring to the battlefield that sets them apart from the other classes. Furthermore, the majority of the missions require certain specific classes to complete objectives. For example the Soldier/Aggressor may be required to blow something up with and explosive charge only the Soldier/Aggressor class carries. On the other hand an Engineer/Constructor may need to construct something essential to the mission like a mining laser for the Strogg or a bridge for the GDF.

ET: QW does have a ranking system what awards experience points to the player during a campaign. During the three mission campaign the player gets experience for completing missions, and eliminating the enemy. The real genius of the experience point system is the experience is only dolled out for helping the team. For example as a Medic if you team kill a friendly you don’t get experience for the revival. As experience builds during a campaign, extra ammo, faster sprint, more grenades and other extras get unlocked. However, once the campaign is over the each players experience goes back to zero. This levels the playing field from the start and better players get more life and improved equipment as the campaign progresses.

This is an excellent game with top notch graphics and dynamite game play, which is fast paced and griping. The intense combat revolving around objectives really draws the player in and it makes 15 minutes pass quickly. I recommend anyone who is a fan of online multiplayer shooters pick up a copy of ET: QW. This game is a solid 10 of 10!

Team Fortress 2

Back to the fortress with the newest installment in the Team Fortress series, Team Fortress 2. This is easily one of the best first person shooters to be released in some time. The ease of game play makes it fun for all levels of PC Gamers and the cartoon like graphics make it compatible with many levels of Computers. Make no mistake the graphics are the most advanced for a Source based game Valve as released to date. However, they can be dialed down to make game play enjoyable on even older computers.

Game play is fun and gripping giving the gamer hours of entertainment from simply one map. There are several classes to choose from The Scout, Pyro, Soldier, Demoman, Engineer, Sniper, Heavy, Spy and Medic. What I love most is each class is unique and original making the game that much more fun. The Soldier carries a rocket launcher, shot gun, and a spade for hand-to-hand combat, instead of the standard machine gun, hand grenades, pistol and knife.

The classes and class selection are really what makes TF2 so much fun. The Medic as the ability to Ubber up another player, basically putting that player into “god mode” for about 30 seconds, which is great for destroying enemy fortifications. The combination of a Heavy and Medic ubber is devastating as the Heavy carries a huge mini-gun (shown in photo) that turns anything in its path into hamburger.

If you’re a fan of the FPS get this game it is a must have! I give this game a solid 10 of 10 as Valve left no stone unturned. Playing this game is the most fun I have ever had in a FPS Get it today. Look for me my steam ID is kungfuhero!
